In a move to produce Bidang Imuseños who are holistic in both competence and character, the Schools Division Office of Imus City, through the Curriculum Implementation Division, held its first-ever Values Education Summit on July 16 at Elizabeth Seton School-South, Brgy. Anabu II-D.

Dr. Hermogenes M. Panganiban, OIC-Schools Division Superintendent, officially launched SDO Imus City’s flagship project on character formation named BEHAVE M4I or “Building Ethical Habits And Values Enhancement for Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan at Makabansang Imuseño,” which is also the central theme of the 1-day summit.

“We have to develop these four core values because it is always reflected in our vision that we dream of Filipinos who passionately love our country and whose values and competencies enable them to realize their full potential,” Panganiban said.

He shared that current activities such as training workshops, procurement of Instructional Materials (IMs), and implementation of various programs, projects and activities (PPAs) which are focused primarily on building learners’ competencies “would be useless without values.”

“Walang kwenta ang anumang bagay na nagagawa o nakakamit natin kung maiiwan naman ang kagandahang-asal at hindi tayo makakapag-produce ng mabubuting mamamayan,” the Superintendent stressed.

He then addressed all stakeholders and said: “We have to do two things: Develop both the competencies and the values. Through our teamwork and collaboration, we can create a difference. Dahil magkatulad po tayo ng pinapangarap—ang maibalik ang pagpapahalaga, respeto at tamang asal ng mga bata. Isang Batang Imuseño sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa.”

Around 300 participants composed of school heads, Guidance and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) teachers, faculty club and GPTA presidents, and city department heads converged and pledged to implement and support BEHAVE M4I thru localized projects that will instill and enhance positive Filipino values among Bidang Imuseño learners.

Learning sessions included Nature and Nurture: A Village Working to Raise a Child by Dr. Paulito V. Hilario, a registered psychometrician and psychologist from Cavite State University; Positive Discipline and Child Protection Policy by Dr. Arnel P. Zapanta, PSDS from SDO Cavite Province; and Recorded Cases in the Guidance Office vis-à-vis DepEd’s Core Values by Ms. Feliz Tayao, Division OIC-EPS of ESP.

As a simple token of gratitude, city department heads were handed plaques of appreciation earlier in the event.
